WHO WE ARE
Located on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, and serving the Jewish community of the South Bay of Los Angeles, Congregation Ner Tamid is a warm, welcoming, and vibrant community. We believe that Judaism is a celebration of life and a pathway toward personal meaning and spiritual fulfillment.
At Ner Tamid, we share in each other's joys and comfort one another in our sorrows. Our doors are open wide to all who wish to participate in our Services and programming and we embrace all who seek to join with us. Our celebration of Jewish life includes the broadest range of quality programs and compelling experiences for people of all ages.
With gratitude for our many blessings, and mindful of the historical, cultural, and religious ties that we share with Jews the world over, we support the welfare of the Jewish People worldwide and take great pride in the State of Israel. Inspired by the richness of our collective Jewish past, motivated by the depth and beauty of the Jewish experience we share in together, we are committed to nurturing and strengthening the Jewish future.
It all began in a private home with a handful of couples on the Friday evening of March 17, 1961. During the early years of our existence, we were becoming close rivals to Moses in our wanderings. Our services and celebrations were held in living rooms to such places as the Redondo Beach Woman’s Club, and many different hotels and churches.
In 2001, we completed our Building Ner Tamid Program, expanding our educational wing and enahncing our beautiful synagogue home. Today we have evolved into a congregation of over 500 families offering a spritiual home for everyone from singles and young families to empty nesters and seniors.
Congregation Ner Tamid has been serving the Jewish community of the South Bay as a Conservative synagogue from the time when there were scarcely families enough to be considered a community. Those who have shared any portion of our long journey have found it a rewarding experience. Looking down the road ahead, we know that the best is yet to come!
